Biography of Laurel Ann Thompson


 Laurel Thompson was born to Peter and Fran Havey in Woorcester, MA on November 16th, 1955. She lived there until she was sixteen months old. Laurel's mother, Fran, contracted tuberculosis when laurel was sixteen months old. Fran had to go into the hospital in Fairfield, Maine. Laurel went to live with Peter's parents in Bangor, Maine while her mother stayed in the hospital in Fairfield.

When Laurel was four, she moved to Highland Plantation and lived with Fran's parents, Walter and Vesta Ware. Vesta also took care of Laurel's cousin, Mark Thomas. When Laurel was five years old, her mother was released from the hospital. Fran had to live separately with Fran Church because of the possibility of contagiousness of Tuberculosis. 

Eventually, Laurel's mom recovered fully from tuberculosis and Laurel went to live in Fairfield with her mother, and grandparents. Laurel's dad, Peter Havey, died from complications of Diabetes when she was seven years old. Peter died in Boston, Massachusetts.

When Laurel was twelve years old, Fran married John Parkman on November 28th, 1964. Laurel moved with them to West Peru, Maine. She attended Rumford High School and graduated in 1974. Laurel has always loved writing. She has many poems that are now being compiled into a book. She also has two novels that she has written.

Laurel married Gary Hugh Thompson on November 16th, 1976 in Mexico, Maine. In 1978 they moved to Cordova, Alaska to serve where the need was great, as Jehovah's Witnesses.

In Cordova, Laurel became a mother on April 21st, 1979 to Gary Seth Thompson. She bore Bethany Thompson on October 12th, 1981 in Cordova Community Hospital and Iris Thompson on April 19th, 1996 at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.

Laurel managed the Queen's Chair Bed & Breakfast for 18 years in Cordova. She also served as an accountant and secretary for Alaska Computer Specialists. She helped her kids, Seth and Bethany do home schooling for 6 years of their school life. To this day, her hard work is very appreciated. She is a wonderful, loving mom and wife. She now resides with her family; Gary, Seth, Bethany and Iris in Craig, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island.

She is still serving as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
